When I was contacted by Bryony Hart last summer and asked if I would be able to come and tell stories for World Book Day at Portsmouth Grammar School, I was delighted. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a partnership in which we would work together to champion storytelling, the spoken word and oracy throughout not just the school, but Portsmouth too. Just over 8 months on, a Poet Laureate Project, plus countless conversations about story, and World Book Day arrived. Our goal was to share stories with as many pupils as possible throughout the day so I was on the 0823 train to Portsmouth for a packed day of stories, legends, folklore and myth.
