A Summer Of Stories
Three Free Stories With Downloadable Activity Sheets For You And The Wee Ones This Summer
Most of the schools, here in the UK, have broken up for the summer. Six long weeks to relax, play in the sun and run your parents ragged as they try to fit their day jobs around the summer activities.
My summer work centres around family storytelling and this year I’m telling stories of fearsome beasts and farming folk at The Weald & Downland Museum in Singleton Sussex, and running Bard Workshops for 9 - 12 year olds as part of Soberton & Newton Children's Week.
Many of you will know that during lockdown I ran a Patreon and one of the tiers was a family tier providing stories and activities for folks with young children. Many of those stories are now available for free via my YouTube channel, and today I’m sharing three of the activity sheets I created in 2020/21 for you to use with three of those stories, to keep the wee ones in your life entertained this summer. For five minutes, at least …
The Little Fish With The Golden Tail
This story is an original tale from my book ‘Adventures In Nature’ and tells the story of a fish who think his tail is treasure. It’s a firm favourite with family audiences and I love telling this one.
Watch the story below and download the activity sheet to play Pond Bingo, create your own Wide Mouth Pike, go pond dipping and create your own story of life in the pond.
When Mother Troll Took In The King’s Washing
You can’t beat a Scandinavian troll tale and this one tells the story of a troll who has a penchant for bacon and does the washing for the king. Watch the story and download the activity sheet to find a recipe fit for a troll, play a washing themed memory game and create your own bubbles.
The Magic Pear Tree
This one’s an ancient Chinese tale about the value of sharing. Watch the story below and download the activity sheet for a delicious desert to go with your troll main (see troll activity sheet), a spot the difference and a craft activity that shows you how to make your own magical orchard.
Don’t forget to let me know if you try any of these activities and share them with me on social media if you can. You can find lots more stories and activities for all seasons in my book ‘Adventures In Nature’ available in all bookshops.
Sounds like a summer of fun!
