Heartbreaking yet absolutely necessary book from Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin
Here’s the blurb:
From our balconies and gardens to our woodlands, national parks and beyond, Back to Nature captures the essence of how we feel about the wildlife outside our windows. Through personal stories, conservation breakthroughs and scientific discoveries, it explores the wonder and the solace of nature, and the ways in which we can connect with it - and protect it.
It's a call to action for anyone who cares about nature, the continuation of life on earth and if you can't tick the first two for some reason the third is yourself. Surely we can tick that one?
We know we are biophilic beings that need the earth, not the other way around. We know it in our bones but standing up for that is often uncomfortable and scary. We're told if we protest we'll be arrested, suppressed and resisted but this is 'omnicide' as Chris so eloquently puts it. We have to stand up. The question is how.
Up to now I've stayed in that safe place that involves feeding the birds in my garden, buying organic food where I can, eating less meat, sharing my love of nature with others, and educating and sharing knowledge where I am welcomed but I know, I need to do more. What am I going to do? Honestly? I'm not sure yet but my eyes are wide open and I'm looking for the path.
If you too are not sure where to start, try this book.
