Stopping by to share some photos of the first day of Butser Ancient Farm’s, first ever Bookfest!
The first day of the festival was packed full of writing workshops and historical fiction and I was delighted to be asked to tell stories from my latest book ‘Stories Of The Sun’ as part of the activities.
We gathered in the large roundhouse known as Little Woodbury for stories of sun gods, dancing stones and the keeper of the light, Baba Yaga.

After sharing stories with a wonderful audience, I signed some books and then I was free to roam the Waterstones bookshop (dangerous) that was there for the day, meet the wonderful Lucy Holland and Elodie Harper and listen to their conversation about the highs and lows of writing historical fiction.
I’ve followed Lucy for a while on Instagram and loved her book Sistersong. I’m very much looking forward to getting stuck onto Song Of The Huntress and her next book is inspired by Taliesin, so that will be another one for the teetering to be read pile.
Elodie Harper writes about the ordinary people of Roman Britain and I couldn’t resist the first in her Triology all about Pompei and the women who worked in the brothel there. The Wolf Den has also joined the TBR pile.
You can buy the books I have mentioned in all good bookshops. If you would like to buy a copy online, please consider visiting my page on Bookshop.org where I have gathered some of the books I read and recommend. Here you will find a plethora of myth, legend and folktale.
It was so lovely to meet you & hear your stories in person 🧡 I very nearly picked up Lucy’s book! I did grab a copy of How to Read a Tree though. I think all Waterstones shopping should be via a roundhouse from now on 😂
Wish I could've attended....
