We have two new members of our household! Meet Brigid and Midnight:
What’s that got to do whith free range folklore I hear you ask, other than that fact that my girls are definitely free ranging. Well, the other day one of the new gals laid us a fairy egg!
These eggs were sometimes known as witches eggs and thought to be the result of a witch tampering with your flock. In other cases some believed it was the rooster that had laid these miniatures. My the more uncouth they are also known as wind eggs or fart eggs
In truth they are eggs laid by hens at the very beginning of their laying life or at the very end, and in other cases due to stress and changes in their environment. A young hen coupled with a new coop and coop mates is likely the result of this one, but I like the idea of them being fairy eggs.
