Merry Met Folks!
A little midweek bonus post for all subscribers this evening. As some of you may have noticed Cerridwen’s Cauldron is sporting a smart new logo.
When I commissioned Matt Willis to design the logo, I asked him to incorporate me storytelling with Cerridwen’s cauldron. I have long been a fan of Matt’s artwork and I was delighted when he agreed to design this logo for me. I think he nailed it!
Matt is a Norfolk based illustrator with a passion for folklore and I’ve invited Matt to come and tell us a little more about his work and design process, so over to you Matt!:
‘I’m a Norfolk born and bred illustrator with passion for Folk lore. In 2020 I created the Norfolk folklore zine SHUCK with Ada Nemesis. Since then we’ve been joined by Siofra Connor, whose name will be more than familiar to anyone interested in Norfolk folklore.
Since the founding of SHUCK zine, my artwork has been pretty much focused on folklore. The zine takes up a lot of my spare time but I love to make time for projects like Dawn’s, Cerridwen’s Cauldron logo. I’ve also set up an Etsy shop - The Folk Lore Box where I sell prints of my work alongside other bits and pieces such as stickers and badges.
My process should come as no surprise in that I start out with pencil and paper and create a rough sketch of the final design. Once I’m happy with this I take a photograph on my iPad and work in Procreate drawing with an Apple Pencil. I’ve been a graphic designer by trade since I left art college 20 odd years ago so I have developed an eye for typographical detail which helps with design work.’
Eagled eyed supporters may noice that I have also had the Stories From Lore logo updated so that they sit well together.
Do go and check out Matt’s work via the following links. I can highly recommend his excellent Shuck Zine!
